Chasing Destiny

I’ve been reading a book I am thoroughly enjoying called The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafon.

I read this cool passage today:

“Destiny is usually just around the corner. Like a thief, a hooker, or a lottery vendor: its three most common personifications.

But what destiny does not do is home visits. You have to go for it.”

The words just seemed to jump out at me today. Going for destiny.

How’s destiny treating you today?

Destiny is waiting for me to take her home. And now if you’ll forgive me I can’t leave my girl waiting any longer.

But I have agoraphobia. What now?

I jest, sorry. I do that when I’m too scared to get out of the house. Thanks for the gentle shove through the screened door.

  5. Well if that wasn’t just the kick in the pants I needed right this moment. 😉

  9. Ash says:

    Um, are you at Blogher?

Just wanted to know if I should only be slightly jealous of that crowd, or downright devestated.

  10. Alexandra says:

Love this. I read something similar, on what I wish I knew as a young adult. “I wish someone had told me I had to have more of my own hand in my destiny.”

  11. Jo says:

    LOVE that book!

  12. Fred says:

The quote mentioned three personifications of destiny, and you said you were “going for destiny”. I ask, which personification? Hopefully not the thief?

Life is mostly luck, not destiny but that would never make it into a Hollywood script. It wouldn’t sell! I can’t judge a book I haven’t read, but that quote is pure cotton-candie.
