Alvin and The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel:

Tomorrow, I will leave our Westside Los Angeles home in a Honda Odyssey packed with a 7-yr-old, a 5-yr-old, a 2-yr-old, an assortment of suitcases, bags, and snacks, and ONE DVD that holds the promise of getting me almost the ENTIRE way to Phoenix (7-ish hours) without any whining or crying: Alvin and The Chipmunks: THE SQUEAKQUEL!!!! All three of my kids are hooked to the core of their beings on Alvin and his buddies. When they watched the 2007 Alvin and The Chipmunks movie on HBO, they sat spellbound and just fell head over heels in love with these lovable furry...

Karen’s Thesis on Elephants –

Animal Planet presents “Elephants” DVD includes 2 incredible documentaries. The first, “Africa’s Elephant Kingdom” was watched by my whole family – mom, dad, and 3 daughters – ages 14, 9 and 4. This is the story of a close-knit family of forty African elephants led by their “matriarch” as they confront everyday life raising their young, looking for sustenance and staying away from predators. This is the family of “Old Bull” – the first majestic elephant we see in the documentary – and the narrator speaks in the first person as if he is Old...

A smörgåsbord of wit and wisdom from N

Written by Em On the eve of my wedding, my domestic, post-war goddess of a grandmother bequeathed to me two pearls of marital wisdom: 1. Always put on lipstick when you hear your husband’s car in the driveway – make him think you’ve been waiting for him all day. 2. Always put a pot on the stove, even if it’s just water boiling – make him think supper is almost ready. If I had really paid attention to what she was saying, I would have heard her speak the keys to a happy marriage – mastering the art of illusion, offering a whole lot of...

Summer, Sandals and FEET!: An Honest Rev

Written by Lee I haven’t done a review in a while.  Mainly because it’s not really what we do around here at MWOB. We have so many other things to accomplish like figure out how to make friends in 60 seconds, ponder whether we’re ready to start wearing thong underwear again, and analyze whether or not we could be considered a “MILF.”   BUT……. …when MomFuse contacted me to see if I would try out some foot cream that might very well get my lame feet into sandal-wearing shape for summertime, I was all. over. it. I repeat....

Casio Light-Up Keyboard: An Honest Revie

When I was 5-years-old I started taking organ lessons.  You know, the organ?  The distant geeky cousin of the piano? Yeah, that thing. We lived on the South Side of Chicago and for some reason in the mid-70’s, organ lessons were considered well, kinda cool.   I’m not sure exactly why I started learning how to play the organ although my older brother was into it too so maybe my parents got some two-for-one deal on the lessons or something.  I do remember going to White Sox games at Comiskey Park (I was a total tomboy and an avid White Sox fan at age 5) and...

We have a winner for the First Juice Giveaway!! Random.org generated the #28 which belonged to Helene! Congratulations to Helene who has TWO SETS OF TWINS! So she needs this juice! Thanks for playing the giveaway game.   Check back for more review/giveaway fun!! I can still remember peering over the kitchen countertop of my youth watching my mom get out our tan plastic pitcher, the inside stained a dull red, as she prepared to mix up one of my favorite childhood beverages….Kool-Aid.  I had an important role in the process. I was often the one lucky enough to get...

"LO YO!" – An Honest Rev

THE PRODUCT Didn’t I cover that in the title?   “LO YO!” is uh, a family card game for ages 7 and up designed to actually get you sitting around with your family and having fun together!  Sounds like a novel concept, right?   I don’t know about you but with three smaller-type kids, it’s difficult to find the time to play a game together.  I’m usually too busy yelling to have fun.  But when “LO YO” arrived in the mail, the box holding the card game read:   “The game where everyone shouts…LO YO!”...

Fashionology LA – An Honest Review

THE CONCEPT Fashionology LA is a fashion destination on Canon Drive (that’s two blocks east of the famous Rodeo Drive) designed for “tweens.” Now, when I was first asked to review this fashion concept of a store, I said “My daughter is only 6 1/2 – is she really considered a tween? Please say no.”   Well, thankfully they said a “tween” officially starts around the age of 8, but the folks at Fashionology LA said she was still at a good age to give it a try. Whew.  That was a close one.  No need to get myself all worked up...
